About Us
Plum Run Farm and Dairy is located in Needmore, Pennsylvania (south central
Pennsylvania), near Hancock,Maryland. It is named after the stream that meanders
through the 111 acres of farm land. The farm is owned and operated by Jack
Mundale and Marilyn Pontius. The farm house dates back to 1854, with the
large barn being added around the turn of the century.
The farm is divided into three major sections. We have 10 acres in pasture
on which we keep the goats, a few horses, and our chickens. We have
approximately 50 acres in hay, with the remainder of acerage in forest.
Each season brings something new.
Someone in the farm's early life planted sugar maples along the road in front
of the farm house. Maple syrup from our own trees is a great treat. The
preparation for and arrival of the kids in mid spring is a very busy time.
Gardens to plant, hay to make, cherry, apple and peach trees to tend and
suddenly its fall harvest time. Never a dull moment.
The
goat operation started as one pet male, then a companion, then a few does.
Then many does and a milking machine. We no longer maintain our PA raw milk
license, however, we do maintain the proceedures and qualtiy control that allowed
us to maintain our license for five years.
